Create finished three-dimensional scale and full size models of proposed vehicles and components. Aid in design and engineering problem solving. Work involves considerable creativity, skill and coordination and is performed with other modelers or independently. Has wide latitude for independent judgment with only general supervision. Occasional instruction and training of other modeling personnel.
- Applies clay to armatures in preparation for surfacing
- Takes dimensions from model with data acquisition equipment to obtain accurate measurements
- Puts dimensional information on model for checking or duplication
- Uses clay modeling and milling equipment
- Creates and develops three-dimensional models to specifications
- Demonstrates curve and surface creation capabilities for development of "class A" quality surfacing
- Frequently assists studio personnel in developing solutions to engineering and design problems
- Works on vehicle subsystems with minimal supervision
- Understands program timelines and is proactive regarding task completion
- Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
- Mentors others in modeling and in understanding the vehicle development process
- Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
- Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Qualifications
Basic Required
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Ability to read engineering drawings
- Ability to create finished three-dimensional models
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Highly developed skill in final execution of forms and shapes
- Creative proficiency with a supporting portfolio
- Able to contribute to creative and aesthetic solutions
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
- Highly proficient in the use of Tarus milling equipment
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to aesthetic creative surfacing
Basic Preferred
- Works with minimal supervision
Education and Training
- College degree with a major in Industrial Design, Sculpture, Ceramics, or computer modeling, Alias preferred, or equivalent training/experience
