Prepare design studies, including design calculations to achieve functional results. Work is highly creative, with some latitude for independent judgment under general supervision. May seek the assistance of other designers. Work duties involve a definite degree of skill, accuracy and coordination.
- Design of moderately complex automotive interior components and/or complete product systems/assemblies using Unigraphics v7.5
- Integrate interior components and systems design into vehicle sub-systems
- Ensure communication between sub-system groups
- Ensure the quality of sub-system components
- Actively participate in design reviews
- Use creative solutions to resolve design issues
- Ensures adherence and compliance to Design Standards and Best Practices
- Maintains working knowledge of new product and design process technology
- Adheres to the Global Vehicle Development Process
- Coordinate with lead designers and engineers to evaluate manufacturability, buildability, and integration of parts and sub-systems
- Keep Design Manager and Design Leader informed of project status, timing, technical issues, and ability to deliver parts on-time with excellence
- Maintains an expert knowledge of Teamcenter and Unigraphics
- Creates moderately complex product designs, including parts for interior trim applications, as well as parts used in articulating subsystems where mechanisms are applied
- Works closely with engineers and designers to achieve completed designs on time with quality
- Documents and maintains materials, mass, and other part specifications within design logs
- Maintains an awareness and understanding of internal and external customers needs/perceptions, and applies this knowledge to product designs
- Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Qualifications
Basic Required:
- Training and/or emerging skill set in Computer Aided Design
- Oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- Basic knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and computer graphics
- High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
Basic Preferred:
- Enrolled in or completed Two year Associate Degree program in Product Design or equivalent experience
- UGNX modeling skill set
- Exposure to Teamcenter Automotive Edition or a math database system
- Exposure to one or more of the following interior automotive product areas: Instrument Panels, Consoles, Overhead Systems, Seat Systems, Garnish Trim, Interior Mechanisms, Safety Restraints, Interior Configuration Packaging and Criteria, Interior Integration and Surface Development
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as it pertains to engineering
