Investment Operations - SubFunctions & Specializations

U.S. CORE and Derivative OPERATIONS includes staff that is primarily responsible for oversight of back office (which is outsourced) and trade processing, clearance and settlement, and other related operational functions. Also includes staff who work on non-traditional securities supporting the confirmation, collateral,, clearance, and documentation process(e.g., derivatives).

MIDDLE OFFICE (U.S. and International mandates) includes operations staff that work with complex and non-traditional U.S. securities products that involve non-standard trade processing.team is closely integrated into and are physically located with, traders and portfolio managers. This position leads a staff that supports portfolio managers in regards to both internal and external management. Staff supports reporting requirements of portfolio managers, runs portfolio risk analytics, oversees the operations of external asset managers and the reconciliation of external managers' performance with independent performance agent.

SPECIALTY OPERATIONS FUNCTIONS:

Corporate Actions staff review and research proxies and analyze shareholder proposals versus the firm's and/or its clients' voting guidelines. Staff recommends action to portfolio managers and analysts and document results for interested parties (e.g., Plan Sponsors, Mutual Fund Boards).

Vendor Management staff oversees custodian banks and fund administrators.

Core Functional Responsibilities

Responsible for managing day-to-day activities of several major securities operations functions.

Develops and implements policies and financial and operating plans.

Evaluates current methods and strategies and implements changes and improvements.

Anticipates and provides solutions to the most complex business and securities operations problems.

Acts as liaison with external organizations.

Supervisory Responsibility

Leads Department Managers across all asset classes.

Typical Experience

Has comprehensive knowledge of investment products and services, securities processing, derivatives and collateral management. Understands Custodian and administrator functions..

Manages several major securities operations departments or functions.

Reports to the SVP, Operations.

Qualifications
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Manages and directs support of GMAM investment management function, and supervises investment portfolio analysis including, but not limited to, portfolio optimization and modeling.
- Manages the creation and preparation of investment analytical reports covering performance attribution and presents those reports and recommendations to GMAM Policy Committee.
- Assists as needed with the supervision of pricing and valuation methodologies.
- Assists as needed the financial reporting needs in investment accounting
- Documents, refines and carries out GMAM investment management processes and procedures.
- Supports ad hoc and formal quarterly investment performance meetings with GMAM stakeholders
- Responsible to assess long-term and ongoing staffing needs of GMAM's investment management function.
- Collaborates with other GMAM team members to prepare Board Meeting materials and regulatory filings.
- Negotiates Trust, Custody, and Vendor agreements.

Requirements

- 7 to 10 years of experience in asset management or in operations of plan sponsor
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics or Mathematics, or equivalent experience/ training
- MBA (or relevant Masters degree) preferred
- CFA or equivalent experience/training
- Minimum 2 years of experience with portfolio analysis, quantitative analysis, portfolio management, trading, investment operations or related investment experience.
- Strong computer skills - Excel and Access.
- Knowledge of pricing / valuation techniques
- Self starter who is able to work independently prioritize workloads, operate under tight deadlines, and able to maintain poise under pressure.
- Highly accurate and detail oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a highly visible and fast-paced environment
- Demonstrates understanding of investment management process
- Demonstrates ability to define and manage processes
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
