The Associate Data Engineer is responsible for understanding and adhering to Enterprise Data Strategies.
The Associate Data Engineer communicates and maintains Data Architecture Components including Master Data, Meta Data, Data Management Repositories, Logical Data Models, Data Standards, Tool Standards, etc., and ensures adherence to policies and procedures for managing consumption and compliance to GM Data Standards.
An Associate Data Engineer is a progressive entry level position. An Associate Data Engineer is expected to have the basic capabilities required of an IT data architect along with a general familiarity of industry standard data architectural patterns, technologies and processes. An Associate Data Engineer will work under the direction of a more senior IT architect while contributing to ongoing operations of the Enterprise Data Management repository.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
a) Contributes to maintenance and communication of the Project and Enterprise Data Capabilities Roadmap (including AS-IS and TO-BE Data Landscapes)
b) Contributes to maintenance, and communication of Logical Data Models for Project and Enterprise Data Areas
c) Understands and applies the enterprise data dictionary and enterprise master data content of key Meta-data for each Project and Enterprise Data Element (i.e., Definition, Type, Format, GOLD SOURCE, and content)
d) Promotes data quality and integration of all data architecture components deemed to be enterprise or cross-domain in scope.
e) Understands and applies Data Processes, Standards, best-practices, etc.
f) Contribute to rationalizing various data areas and addressing data management processes (data lineage, data profiling, data quality management, data stewardship and governance)
g) Assists in documentation of artifacts
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
a) Knowledge of Enterprise Data Architecture, including the distinction between contextual, conceptual, logical, and physical layers and the distinction and dependencies between business, information, systems, and technology.
b) Knowledge of data quality and data integration functions for all data architecture components deemed to be enterprise wide in scope.
c) Knowledge of at least one IT technology domain including infrastructure platforms, data management and database technologies, and security frameworks and tools.
d) Some experience with data architecture support tools (e.g., ErWin, Enterprise Data Dictionary Tools - IBM InfoSphere, etc.) preferred
a) Ability to comprehend complex or abstract subjects illustrated using simple diagrams
b) Ability to contribute to identification, evaluation and recommendations for enterprise-wide data architecture standards.
c) Ability to contribute to execution of an Project or Enterprise Data architecture assessment; Requirements definition/mapping/gap analysis
d) Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, developers, managers, and subject matter experts
e) Ability to work constructively as an individual or in groups
Education/Training
4 Year IT College Degree. Equivalent work experience.
Experience
a) 3-5 years in the business environment in Data and Data Architecture
b) Demonstrated experience in Enterprise Data Architecture, including the distinction between contextual, conceptual, logical, and physical layers and the distinction and dependencies between business, information, systems, and technology.
c) Demonstrated experience in data architecture design and data modeling and development and maintenance of data architectures
